West Jackson - Lay Ministries Advanced Courses

February 18 2021

West Jackson District - Lay Servant Advanced Classes Offered

Greetings, Laity of the East and West Jackson Districts,

In the wake of a world-wide pandemic, clergy and laity alike continue to explore new ways to minister to those in need and make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.  Since equipping is a vital step in the disciple making process, the District Lay Leadership Committees have met to discern the best way to provide Lay Servant Ministries classes.

Because the committees feel personal interaction is beneficial to those exploring a call to Lay Servant Ministry, the committees hope to offer in-person basic classes with limited participants (for social distancing) during the Spring of 2021. More information about the basic course offering will be provided during a later time.  To enable Certified Laypersons to maintain certification, the Districts recommend enrolling in an online advanced course available through and approved by Discipleship Ministries. Following are the specific recommended courses:

Rediscovering Our Spiritual Gifts February 22-March 5, 2021
Leading Bible Study: Biblical Interpretation February 1-12, 2021 CLOSED
Becoming Accountable Disciples April 19-30, 2021

To register for an advanced course each participant will need to access the website at; click “Enroll in a Course”; scroll down the list until the desired course is located; then, click on the course name. Another window will open with the course description. Click the “Enroll Now!” box; fill in the required information and pay the necessary fee. After registration is complete you will receive an email confirmation with instructions needed to access the course. A BeADisciple first-time learners guide is also attached to assist with additional questions you may have about their online learning model.
It is important to note that offers many courses; but not all have been approved by Discipleship Ministries for Lay Servant certification. Should you opt to take a course other than one recommended above, please contact your district’s Lay Servant Ministries Coordinator to ensure the course meets the necessary requirements.
“Lay Ministry is the work of mission or ministry to which each believer is called. As Christians we are all called to this ministry or priesthood – not just clergy. Each of us has a responsibility to proclaim the Good News and reach out to others in love.” Thank each of you for answering the call and fulfilling your responsibility.

Peace and Grace,
Vicki Jones, East Jackson District LSM Coordinator
Jacquline Hudson, West Jackson District LSM Coordinator
